Fraud Alert: PayPal Money Request Emails

Scammers have seen to it to using PayPal to send out money requests in bulk. The emails are indeed legitimately from PayPal. However they are not real requests as you actually owe some idiot you never heard of money. You need to copy the headers into an email and forward the emails to them at abuse@paypal.com and phishing@paypal.com

But this is only part of the problem. Many users are hitting the REPLY ALL button. Why? I have no idea but I get about 30 replies all messages after I get one of these requests. Each person that has hit reply all is at risk of losing their email account. Because they are spamming all the rest of us with their nasty comments meant ONLY for the scammer.

Do NOT press reply all, don’t even hit reply! Simply report them so PayPal knows you indeed don’t owe anyone money. If you reply, the scammer has the reply email address to send to over 100 people. So you risk losing YOUR account!

After a few days I generally get an email stating the money request was canceled. I have been ignoring these for about a month and a half but now it’s getting out of control. I suspect they are doing it so they can find active PayPal accounts to try to hack.
